ROLLS-ROYCE CORNICHE

Saloon Corniche FHC Series 1 (1970)

Just Having 9000.00 spend in the last 3 months on the car. Launched in 1966 as a two-door version of the Silver Shadow, the coachbuilt Mulliner Park Ward Coupe was a superior car to the saloon on which it was based. With fabulously elegant coachwork designed by Bill Allen, each and every one was handbuilt by MPW in a necessarily lengthy process that took all of 20 weeks and resulted in a price some 50% higher than the standard Silver Shadow.

Only the very finest materials were used with different seats and dash to the Shadow, engine power went up by 10% and tweaks to the suspension and steering geometry gave an even better ride. Demand for these magnificent cars was so great that the waiting list was measured in years, not months, a state of affairs that resulted in them being given their own model name, Corniche, in March 1971.

The Corniche was progressively developed over time, gaining features like split-level air conditioning, rack-and-pinion steering, Bosch fuel-injection and self-levelling rear suspension. Reassuringly exclusive, only 1,108 Coupes were made before production ceased at the end of 1981, though a convertible version continued as the flagship model in the Rolls-Royce range until 1996.

1970 Rolls-Royce Corniche FHC Finished in Le Mans Blue Metallic, The interior is
Trimmed in Dark Blue hide with matching Wilton carpets and lambs wool over rugs and is wonderfully original, still retaining the period radio and cassette. The burr walnut veneer is beautifully figured and in exceptional condition and the whole interior has that correct 'Rolls-Royce smell' which is so often missing. In the boot the original toolkit is present and full as well as the bag for jack and large tools, the boot is carpeted in Blue Wilton with a fitted Blue lamps wool over rug. This scarce motor car has Service History going back to 1976 and loads of invoices to support the Rolls, After a short spell in a large UK based private collection, we are delighted to offer this stunning Corniche for sale. She runs and drives beautifully, benefiting from SU carburettors rather than the troublesome Solex which was introduced a few month after this car was built. A scarce opportunity to purchase such a wonderfully maintained example of these scarce and highly collectible cars.
