1966 SHELBY HERTZ MUSTANG (evocation)
Although not the cheapest but, it is a” realistic circa price” and not even half as much as the “real deal" Shelby.
There are few other replicas advertised..and cheaper. If thats what you are after..go for it but, remember, you get what you pay for.
I have a lot of information about this particular car since I bought it in the States myself and did ALL the shipping and importing myself as well.
The 1966 fatback is THE one to have and sales of these testify to that demand.
As you will see from the photos (although they don't do the real car justice) it is kept, garaged and covered and it is genuinely immaculate throughout!
I am extremely fussy I wanted a GT350 as near to an original Shelby as I could get...All (and there has been a lot) of work was undertaken to get it into peak condition throughout. This work was carried out by real EXPERTS in Mustangs and V8s All work has been logged and I have all related work and parts documents to back it up.
I have not installed, hydraulic brakes, steering or clutch. They are as per the original. Having said that the engine has been rebuilt twice with many new parts (including a new & correct cam) as the engine I had bought was not correct. It has been improved with extra power and a five speed box. but remains identical to the original in appearance.
Inside the motor, it’s been bored and stoked to make the cubic inch a 348 ci displacement instead of 289 cubic inches but from the outside there aren’t any visual differences for the block itself.
In the engine bay are Shelby-correct pieces like the bracer bar and Cobra valve covers, The V8 was rebuilt and arriving in the UK had only done 414 miles. And since then I have only done a further 500 miles odd. The high performance camshaft is a full three-angle valve service, and the correct Holly and 289 filter four-barrel carburettors set, again to get it correct it replaced an Edlebrock and filter (which were wrong for this car). There are real Shelby manufacturers metal labels on door sills and in the engine bay (the engine bay one has not been stamped)On the glovebox is the “real" Carroll Shelby signature.
It is a quality build/restoration that is much more correct than you will normally see. Fully operational side scoops, hood closure pins and air scoop. The iconic American Racing Torque Thrust wheels, with hard to find Goodrich tyres (with minimal wear)
Pristine black interior. It has new components, the comfort-weave seats are firm and unmarked. The door panels feel firm as you close them. The GT350 carpets are virtually unworn. The wood grained Shelby steering wheel and correct full five round gauge panel plus are original.
Ron Morris Performance adjustable front suspension (these are far more stable than the original Koni Shocks (but can be replaced by the Koni’s if the buyer wants to do it) I prefer the Morris units. Large Baer slotted & vented front disc brakes. The Cobra tach on the dash is the correct 9000 rev version.
The car has been homologated to comply with all UK and EU standards. The headlights though standard 66 GT350, the actual illuminators are hi beam LEDs as are the stop and direction indicators. There is also a separate rear light (switch operated) externally they appear as 66 lights!
A date correct vintage push button radio (actually it is a replica with modern wiring and works fine). There is also a fire extinguisher.
The gear stick shift has a white five speed marked knob (rare and unusual). There are also 1966 racing lap safety belts.
This added performance is fully utilised with the addition of a five-speed manual transmission (this gives more milage and revs ). There are a few Mustang components going with the car.
